Kia built the EV9 to prove electric SUVs could be spacious, capable, and tech-forward. The EV3 takes that same philosophy and shrinks it down for Ontario's urban cores, tight parking spots, and daily commutes. This is Kia's first sub-compact electric SUV - designed for buyers who need efficiency and manoeuvrability without sacrificing features. Sized for city driving but equipped for weekend getaways, it charges quickly, offers genuine all-wheel drive capability, and comes loaded with technology previously reserved for flagship models.
Two Batteries, Six Trims, Real Flexibility
The EV3 offers two battery options. The base Light trim uses a 58.3 kWh battery rated at 354 km of range. Every other trim - Wind, Land, GT-Line, GT-Line Limited, and GT - steps up to an 81.4 kWh battery rated at 482 km of range in front-wheel-drive configuration. That larger battery also unlocks all-wheel drive on Wind, Land, GT-Line, and GT-Line Limited trims. The GT trim comes standard with AWD.
Charging speed is competitive. The 58.3 kWh battery charges from 10 to 80 percent in 29 minutes using a DC fast charger; the 81.4 kWh battery takes 31 minutes. Both figures put the EV3 in line with other E-GMP vehicles for real-world road trip viability.
The EV3 uses a native NACS charging port, providing access to Tesla's Supercharger network and other NACS-compatible stations without an adapter - a practical advantage in Ontario, where NACS infrastructure is expanding faster than CCS in many regions.

Technology That Travels Down From the EV9
The EV3 shares the same Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) as the EV9: dual 12.3-inch displays for instrument cluster and infotainment, plus a 5.3-inch HVAC touchscreen. The system supports over-the-air software updates for remote feature additions and improvements.
The available 12-inch head-up display projects speed, navigation, and driver assistance alerts onto the windshield. The available Harman Kardon eight-speaker audio system is tuned specifically for the EV3's cabin acoustics. Wireless smartphone charging is standard on most trims, and Digital Key 2.0 allows you to unlock and start the vehicle using a compatible smartphone.
The Surround View Monitor and Blind-spot View Monitor are available on higher trims, using multiple cameras to provide a 360-degree view useful in tight parking situations or narrow urban streets.
i-Pedal 3.0 and Smart Regenerative Braking
The EV3 introduces i-Pedal 3.0, allowing you to control the vehicle's speed using only the accelerator pedal. Lift off, and the system applies regenerative braking to slow the vehicle to a complete stop. The system now works in reverse as well, making low-speed manoeuvring smoother.
Smart Regenerative Braking adjusts the level of regenerative braking based on traffic conditions and the vehicle ahead, automatically increasing braking when it detects a vehicle slowing in front of you. This helps recapture more energy and reduces friction brake use.
The i-Pedal Memory function remembers your last-used setting and reactivates it when you restart the vehicle, eliminating manual adjustment every drive.
V2L: Your Vehicle as a Power Source
The EV3 includes Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, allowing you to power external devices directly from the vehicle's battery. This feature is useful for camping trips, tailgating, outdoor work, or emergency situations where grid power is unavailable.
V2L can power laptops, portable refrigerators, power tools, and other devices up to a certain wattage limit. The system works until the battery reaches 20 percent state of charge, then automatically shuts off to preserve enough range to drive to a charging station.
Opposites United Design Language

The EV3 follows Kia's Opposites United design philosophy, balancing natural forms with industrial precision. The front end features Kia's star map DRL design - small cube LED projector headlamps arranged vertically and horizontally - giving the EV3 a distinctive look that ties it visually to the EV4, EV5, and EV9.
The roofline slopes rearward, creating a coupe-like profile despite the vehicle's SUV proportions. Hidden rear door handles keep the side view clean and aerodynamic. The EV3 rides on either 17-inch or 19-inch alloy wheels, depending on trim. The GT trim gets high-performance all-season tires and exclusive design elements.
Aerodynamics were a priority. The EV3 uses lightweight body materials, aero wheels, a front bumper active air flap, and a full underbody cover to achieve a drag coefficient of 0.26 Cd, maximizing range and reducing wind noise at highway speeds.
Cabin Space and Cargo Flexibility
The EV3's interior is designed around simplicity and flexibility. The base Light and Wind trims use a two-spoke steering wheel, while GT-Line and GT trims get a three-spoke design. The open centre console includes retractable cupholders and both open and covered storage compartments.
Rear seat passengers get reclining seat backs that adjust up to 40 degrees, plus dedicated air vents. The 60/40 split-folding rear seats fold flat to expand cargo capacity. With seats up, the EV3 offers 740 litres of cargo space. A two-position luggage board provides underfloor storage, and the EV3 includes a 25 litre frunk - a feature not commonly found in sub-compact SUVs.
The available Smart Power Tailgate opens automatically when it detects the Smart Key nearby. You can adjust the opening height and speed through the infotainment system, useful if you park in a garage with limited clearance.
Safety Systems Across the Lineup
The EV3 comes standard with eight airbags, including rear side airbags. Forward Collision Avoidance is standard across the EV3 lineup and includes FCA Junction Turning (FCA-JT) and FCA Junction Crossing (FCA-JC). FCA-JT monitors for oncoming vehicles when turning left at an intersection with the turn signal active. FCA-JC watches for vehicles approaching from the left or right when driving straight through an intersection. Both systems provide audible and visual alerts, followed by automatic emergency braking if necessary.
Hands-on Detection (HOD) is also standard, monitoring whether your hands are on the steering wheel and providing alerts if it detects you've let go for too long.
Other available driver assistance systems include:
- Driver Attention Warning (DAW)
- Lane Following Assist (LFA)
- Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA)
- Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA)
These systems reduce driver workload and help avoid collisions, but are not substitutes for attentive driving.
Suspension Tuning for Ontario Roads
The EV3 uses a MacPherson strut suspension at the front and a multi-link geometry at the rear, balancing ride comfort with handling responsiveness. Kia's engineers focused on reducing noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) by adding sound absorption materials throughout the body and applying damping materials to key areas. The suspension is tuned for a smooth ride on highways and stable handling in corners, designed to feel planted and controlled on both smooth pavement and rougher roads.
What the EV3 Brings to the Segment
The EV3 is Kia's answer to buyers who want an electric SUV that fits their budget, parking spot, and daily driving needs. While not the longest-range EV on the market, 482 km is enough for most commutes and weekend trips without frequent charging stops. The dual-battery strategy gives buyers a choice: the Light trim offers a lower entry point, while the larger battery trims provide more range and the option for all-wheel drive.
The EV3 is expected to go on sale in Canada in late Q3 2026. Visit Bolton Kia in Bolton to learn more about the EV3 lineup and to reserve your spot for a test drive when the vehicle arrives.
