Unveiled: The 2027 Kia Seltos Brings Big SUV Capability

Kia has completely redesigned the Seltos for 2027. This is the second-generation model, and it arrives with more space, more technology, and a new hybrid powertrain option. What the Redesign Delivers

The 2027 Seltos is larger than the outgoing model. The wheelbase grows by 60 mm, which translates to 25 mm more rear legroom and 25 mm more headroom. Cargo capacity increases to 1,817 litres behind the first row - enough for a full grocery run, hockey bags, and camping gear with room to spare. USB-C ports are standard in both rows, with rear-seat charging ports integrated into the front seatbacks for easy access.

The X-Line trims get an exclusive monotone black interior with SynTex upholstery, mesh headrests, and four-way lumbar support. The X-Line Limited adds front Relaxation Seats, which recline and enhance the footrest for added comfort on long drives.

Three Powertrains, Three Approaches

The 2027 Seltos offers three distinct powertrain options, each paired with a different transmission and tuned for a specific type of driving.

2.0-Litre Naturally Aspirated (LX, EX, EX Premium): 

The base engine is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder paired with Kia's Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT). This setup is designed for efficiency and smooth, predictable power delivery - ideal for daily commuting and city driving.

1.6-Litre Turbocharged (X-Line, X-Line Limited): 

The turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder produces 190 hp and routes power through an 8-speed automatic transmission with manual control. This engine is tuned for quicker acceleration and more responsive throttle - the choice for drivers who want a sportier feel without stepping up to a larger SUV.

1.6-Litre Hybrid (HEV): 

The hybrid powertrain pairs a 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine with a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission. It is available in front-wheel drive or with Kia's new electric all-wheel-drive (e-AWD) system. The e-AWD setup uses an electric motor to power the rear wheels on demand, providing extra traction without the weight and complexity of a traditional mechanical AWD system. This is the first time Kia has offered e-AWD on a hybrid SUV. Official fuel economy figures will be released closer to the hybrid's on-sale date.

Standard Safety and Driver Assistance

The 2027 Seltos comes standard with a comprehensive suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). These include Forward Collision Avoidance Assist with Junction Turning, which can detect oncoming traffic when making a left turn at an intersection. Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist, Driver Attention Warning, High-Beam Assist, and Intelligent Speed-Limit Assist are all standard across the lineup.

New for 2027 are Hands-On Detection, which monitors steering input to ensure the driver remains engaged, and Safe Exit Alert, which warns rear-seat passengers if a vehicle is approaching from behind when they attempt to open the door. Front and rear Parking Distance Warning is also standard.

Available features include a 3D Surround-View Monitor, which provides a bird's-eye view of the vehicle and its surroundings, and Kia's Blind-Spot View Monitor, which displays a live video feed of the left or right blind spot on the digital instrument cluster when the corresponding turn signal is activated.
